Arizona--Great News: Compulsory Bill Fails!

Dear Arizona HSLDA Members and Friends,

Good news on House Bill 2292! After the House Education Committee had
the hearing on Monday, the bill failed to pass. The Education
Committee voted 5 to 5, giving H.B. 2292 a "Do not pass"
recommendation.

This will kill H.B. 2292, and raising the compulsory school attendance
age should be dead for the rest of the legislative session. There is a
slight chance this could be slipped into another bill, but we, along
with Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE), will continue to
monitor this.

AFHE's legislative liaison was at the hearing and testified against
the bill. Joining her was a representative from the Department of
Education. Those in support of the bill included the sponsor, a
student who researched and help draft the bill, the Arizona School
Boards Association and some representatives for the teacher union.

Based on reports from the hearing, your phone calls were heard and had
an impact in the final vote. Thank you for all your calls in
opposition to this bill.

If you are not a member of HSLDA yet and would like to be to help join
together in protecting and defending homeschool freedom, please go to

appreciated.

Sincerely,
